How we collect, use and protect your personal information

Last updated: 3 September 2026

Fortified Homes Limited (NZBN 9429042282167) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect through our website fortifiedhomes.co.nz and in the course of our business, how we use it, and your rights over it.

We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

The information we collect

Information you give us. When you fill in an enquiry form, phone, text or email us, we collect the details you provide. That is usually your name, email address, phone number, the area you want to build in, and anything else you choose to tell us about your project.

If you go on to become a client, we collect the further information needed to design, consent and build your home, including your address, details of your section, and the financial and identity information required by our building contract and by law.

Information collected automatically. When you visit our website we collect standard technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how you arrived at the site, and how long you stay. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies.

Cookies and tracking

Our website uses cookies, which are small files stored by your browser, along with similar technologies. We use them for three purposes.

Website analytics. We use analytics services such as Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to measure how people find and use our website, so we can improve it. These tell us things like which pages are popular and which searches bring people to us. They do not tell us who you are.

Advertising measurement. We use advertising services such as Google Ads to measure whether our advertising is working and, where relevant, to show our ads to people who have previously visited our website. This uses cookies set by those providers.

Website behaviour tools. We may use tools such as Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity that produce anonymised heatmaps and recordings of how visitors move through our pages, to help us find what is confusing or broken. These tools are not used to record the personal details you enter into our enquiry form.

You can control or block cookies through your browser settings at any time. Blocking cookies will not stop you using our website or contacting us.

How we use your information

We use personal information to:

  • respond to your enquiry and answer your questions
  • arrange meetings, site visits and quotes
  • design, consent, build and hand over your home if you become a client
  • meet our obligations under the Building Act 2004 and other New Zealand law
  • send you occasional updates about house and land packages, plans and news, where you have asked to receive them
  • improve our website and understand whether our advertising is effective

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass your enquiry to other builders, brokers or lead-generation companies.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where it is necessary:

  • with the subcontracted trades, designers, engineers and suppliers working on your build
  • with your local council and building consent authority, where required for consents and code compliance
  • with our professional advisers, such as our accountants and lawyers
  • with the technology providers that run our website, email and business systems
  • where the law requires it

Overseas storage. We use third-party providers for website hosting, content delivery, cloud file storage, website analytics, advertising measurement and email. Some of these store information outside New Zealand. We choose providers that are required to protect your information to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act 2020. By using our website or contacting us, you acknowledge that your information may be held overseas by these providers.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information for as long as it may be useful to a possible build project, and client and project records for the periods required by our building contracts, the Building Act, and tax and company law.

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including access controls on our systems and the security measures provided by our hosting and software providers.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Contact our Privacy Officer below. We will respond within 20 working days.

You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on, and manage the ads you see at adssettings.google.com. If we send you marketing emails, every message includes an unsubscribe link.

Children

Our website and services are aimed at adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated.
